Work Context

Over the last years, CESVI has implemented humanitarian response, early recovery, resilience-building and local economic development programmes funded by institutional donors including AICS, the European Union, UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP and IOM. CESVI has developed strong technical and operational expertise in food security and livelihoods, agriculture, WASH, disaster risk reduction, gender equality, education and humanitarian assistance, with a particularly consolidated presence in Herat Province since 2008. Recent AICS-funded initiatives have supported vulnerable households, returnees, women and farming communities through integrated agricultural livelihoods support, WASH, irrigation rehabilitation, Cash-for-Work, women-led income generation, community-based DRR, early warning and emergency preparedness.

CESVI operations in Afghanistan includes emergency response with resilience, livelihoods recovery and gender-sensitive programming in areas affected by return movements, climate shocks and displacement.

Job Description

The collaboration will start in October 2026. The main duty station will be Herat, with regular visits to Kabul and field missions’ country-wide in line with the security conditions.

The Project Assistant will report to the Senior Programme Manager / Country Coordinator.

The Project Assistant supports the operational, administrative and technical management of the project. They work under the supervision of the Senior Programme Manager / Country Coordinator, with increasing responsibilities in planning, monitoring and reporting.

  • Actively supports the operational planning of the project and the monitoring of activity progress against the workplan, budget and indicators
  • Contributes to the collection, organization and archiving of project documentation, including workplans, reports, minutes and attendance sheets
  • Supports the analysis and systematization of monitoring data, working with the M&E staff on indicator tracking
  • Contributes to the drafting of periodic and final narrative reports, ensuring consistency with AICS and CESVI requirements
  • Supports the financial monitoring of the project, verifying consistency between activities, expenditures and budget, and reporting any deviations
  • Supports procurement and logistics procedures under supervision, including collection of quotations, purchase requests and document traceability
  • Participates in internal coordination meetings and contributes to internal communication among the different departments involved in the project
  • Supports project visibility and communication activities, in line with AICS and CESVI Guidelines

Essential Requirements

  • University degree or post graduate degree preferably in Social Sciences or Political Sciences or equivalent experience in International Cooperation
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in INGO environment in management,
  • Prior experience in humanitarian response/grants and reporting
  • Previous experience working abroad (preferred)
  • Knowledge of NGO procedures, approaches and operations
  • Knowledge of project cycle management
  • Ability to produce timely project narrative and financial reports
  • Experience in proposal writing
  • Knowledge of the main humanitarian / development donors
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and diplomatic skills
  • Strategic thinking and innovation
  • Self-motivated, able to take initiative, resilient and able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work cooperatively
  • High level of IT skills (Office package)

Desirable Requirements

  • Familiarity with the following sector: food security and livelihoods, agriculture, WASH, disaster risk reduction, emergency response
  • Prior experience in Afghanistan
